What’s in Year 7 Arithmetic for Students?
Arithmetic; why do we have to study it school?
The answer should never be because someone is making you or that you need it for college/10th grade math/chemistry class. Mathematics should be seen as a necessary tool in our everyday lives for example, whenever we go to purchase something, we first need to consider how much it will cost and secondly, what we will be left with after the purchase.
Mathematical proficiency is required in so many jobs whilst also being a critical element of scientific investigation procedures, engineering calculations and also for research. And importantly, a mathematically informed citizen will generally make better economic decisions about resource allocation, policy changes and risk assessments.
But also, students of Year 7 can learn to appreciate math and the landmark accomplishments achieved over centuries by some brilliant mathematicians. Attitudes will change when students realize for themselves, that doing math teaches patterns of problem solving and insight that will flow on to other areas of their lives whilst also providing skills in rigor, argumentation and persuasion.
