What’s in Year 7 Equations for students?
“Algebra is the gateway to exploring the world around us.”
Doing equations is achievable for all students and learning to master the process of solving them is arguably, the best way for students to understand what the equation is telling them. Equations in reality are just the beginning for a student to be able to solve more complex problems.
For the inquisitive Year 7 student, much can be learned through the ability to solve Algebraic Equations especially when they gain some insight into just how much equations have been used to create our modern society. Albeit, equations have existed for many centuries.
And in another instance, most people assume that learning “advanced” topics such as rocket propulsion and Einstein’s theory of Relativity would require much higher levels of advanced math than Algebra. It is true that more advanced math is very necessary to understand every facet of these and other advanced topics.
Algebra and arithmetic are the parents (Queen and King) of all other branches of mathematics, calculus, quantum mechanics, relativity, string theory, matrices etc
About year 7 Equations
Doing equations successfully involves more than just being able to complete the simple ones in your head eg. 4a + 5 = 17
It means having a clear understanding of the expressions used in equations, and the purpose of using equations. This is a very fundaments mathematical concept, writing mathematical sentence using variables. One of the great computer break-throughs that lead to the desk-top computer came about when mathematicians at XEROX realized that whole computer programs (called sub-routines) could be imbedded as variables into another larger program. At year 7 standard it is highly desirable that students embrace the concept mathematical problems couched in symbolic form using variables, ie equations.
Equation Problems and Solutions
The answers are included in the workbook and follow on immediately after the questions that have been set out. Care is taken to ensure that the problems faced in each session will provide ample practice and revision questions on equations that will not only challenge the thinking of the student but will also eliminate one the main reasons why children fail:
“When students miss out on learning and understanding one of the basic rules and fundamentals of math, they lose confidence in their ability to perform in a test situation.
About Robert Ollis
Robert Ollis is a motivator on a mission to inspire all students to achieve to their potential, both academically and personally. For the student who lacks the confidence and self belief to achieve, the CMG workbooks due to the diligence of Robert Ollis, a master tutor of more than 35 years, they will see and experience the turnaround that he has long believed in and worked so tirelessly towards.
